Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts

Overview

Crossroads School’s new Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts, slated to open in 2026, will challenge our students to stretch the limits of their creativity and serve as a resource for our local community. Housing state-of-the-art teaching, performance and rehearsal spaces, along with a permanent home for the School’s Equity & Justice Institute, this facility will bolster the exceptional dance, drama, music and filmmaking programs that Crossroads School offers today.

It is a tremendously exciting time to be at Crossroads. Over on 22nd Street, just beyond my office window, construction crews are busy building the Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts. The facility, scheduled to open February 2026, is the third and most financially ambitious step in the Worlds Unimagined Capital Campaign.

Crossroads’ performing arts programs have grown tremendously over the years, fueled by the talent and interest of our students. But the facilities on the 21st Street Campus—some of which date back to the ’70s—have not kept pace. Small music rooms lack soundproofing; the small theater (shared between drama and dance) has no fly space and limited prop storage; the Elizabeth Mandell Music Institute recital hall is a highly in-demand multipurpose room; and the filmmaking program has no dedicated space.

The 58,000-square-foot Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts, designed by acclaimed architect Zoltan E. Pali, is set to change all that.
