Crossroads Musicians Selected to Join Elite Jazz Ensembles
Upper School students Anna Abondolo, Ethan Avery will perform domestically and abroad this summer.
Two Upper School jazz musicians at Crossroads have earned spots in highly competitive honor jazz ensembles.
Graduating senior Anna Abondolo and sophomore Ethan Avery were selected to take part in high school honor jazz ensembles that will perform domestically and then embark on international tours.
Anna was chosen to play bass in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, which will be directed by professional trumpet player Sean Jones. This summer, the ensemble will rehearse in New York and debut at Carnegie Hall before heading off on a three-week tour in the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain. Jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves will perform with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra on the European tour.
Ethan was awarded the top jazz trumpet spot in the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, a 21-piece big band comprised of musicians from across the country. In July, Ethan and his fellow musicians group will rehearse in Monterey before heading to Japan for a three-week tour. In September, the ensemble will reconvene in Monterey to perform at the 61st-annual Monterey Jazz Festival along with artist-in-residence and professional jazz trumpet player Ingrid Jensen.
