Crossroads Students Honored with Multiple Arts Accolades
This year, 31 Middle and Upper School students received outside honors in writing, music, visual and performing arts.
The arts are an essential element of a Crossroads education and one of the School’s founding commitments. As part of the K-12 curriculum, students receive instruction in creative dance and movement, film, drama, creative writing, music and visual arts. The arts are taught in an interdisciplinary fashion and students are encouraged to pursue their creative passions both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to their artistic achievements at the School, a number of Crossroads students have been recognized by outside arts organizations for their outstanding achievements in writing, music and performing arts.
IN WRITING:
- Ninth grader Liv Amiri received an Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.
- 11th grader Kate Jang won a Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.
IN MUSIC:
- Eighth grade pianist Ally Kozick and sixth grade bassist Landon Hollman were accepted to the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Junior High School All Stars.
- 11th grade violinist Marena Miki was accepted into the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America and will perform with the orchestra at Carnegie Hall this summer.
- 11th grade violinist Rachael Kim was awarded third place in the 2022 Edith Knox Performance Competition, hosted by the Peninsula Symphony.
- 11th grade pianist Alex Levin was named a jazz instrumental semifinalist for the Spotlight Music Awards.
- 11th grader Max Morgen was accepted into the NYU Tisch Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music Summer Program.
- 12th grade violinist Isabella H. was admitted to the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra and will attend the festival for three weeks this summer in the village of Verbier, Switzerland.
- 12th grader Oliver Mann was awarded for his composition “Industrial Automation” for saxophone and electronics in the Music on the Bluffs Competition at Loyola Marymount University.
IN VISUAL ARTS:
- Seven Crossroads students were chosen to showcase their work in the We the People Online Exhibition hosted by the BFA Photography and Video Department at the School of Visual Arts: 11th-graders Ondine Bader, Juliet Cisneros, Elijah Ayers-Davis, Jamison Dean, Gabriella Ebrahimi, Farol Seretean and tenth grader Rowena Smith. - 11th grader Kate Jang received an honorable mention at the California Coastal Arts Competition and will be exhibiting work with the California Coastal Commission at the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center (Ventura); the Ford House Museum (Mendocino); the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center (Newport Beach); and the Bear Valley Visitor Center at Point Reyes National Seashore (Marin County).
IN THEATER:
- Crossroads students participated in the Drama Teachers of Southern California (DTASC) Theater Festival and received awards in six categories. To read about their experience, click here.
