Middle and Upper School Students Attend Annual Latin Competition
Students brought home awards from this year’s Scramulum event.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, 38 Middle School and 16 Upper School students attended the annual mini Latin Convention, called SCRAMulum, at Loyola High School. SCRAMulum is an opportunity for Latin students across Southern California to connect and form lifelong friendships. Crossroads students came home with multiple awards. Eighth graders Rachel Ma, Elyse Barry, Camila Vera Arnao and Jack Starr dressed classmate Maya Franklin as a voracious Stymphalian bird to earn third place in the Project Runway competition. Tenth grader Mati Fuchs-Lynch and eighth grader David Zeidenfeld competed in the Gladiator fight tournament; David won second place in the Middle School division. Seventh graders Jaden Buckner and Milo Stein won first place for their two-minute, Classically themed performance in the Roman Rant competition.
Crossroads previously hosted Latin Conventions including SCRAM Day in 1997, 2016 and 2022. This year, the Middle School supported Loyola’s hosting efforts by leading three crafty events: a mosaic workshop, an impromptu art session and Project Runway. The mosaic workshop was led by Josie Cavell, Kai Washington and Layla Laiken, and Latin teacher Alison Wedding. Impromptu art focused on building architectural features out of cardboard.
Laszlo Taschen and Jack Starr came up with this idea under the leadership of Latin teacher Moc Le Nguyen. Farrah Levine also helped organize materials and run the event. Project Runway: Labors of Hercules edition was the final event. Seline Li, Pearl Simpson, Sasha Monti and Ellerie Frandle led the event with Marisa Alimento advising.
